Siobhan Iarconnachtach inghean ui chulachain Passed 2/17/2010

Duchess Carol of Bellatrix Passed 1/24/2010
Her Grace, Duchess Carol of Bellatrix, six times Queen of the West and a great friend to Caid, passed away at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, January 24, 2010, surrounded by her loving family. The SCA has lost a great lady but her spirit will live on through our memories of her kindness, honor, generosity, and beauty.
The Baronies of Calafia and Gyldenholt invite the populace of Caid to join them in celebrating Friendship. This year's celebration will have a Scottish theme! So pleats your kilt and polish up your pipes! There will be highland games, hound coursing, and bagpipes, fighting, shopping, food and fun! There will be a lunch for $5. Merchants are welcome and encouraged. There is a merchant fee charge by the site owners of $25/booth. Due to this Calafia will waive the site fee for the merchant and one minion.
There will be a short memorial immediately following court for the Rapier community or any who would attend for Michele du Chinon who was recently killed in a vehicle roll over. He was a beloved husband to Lady Anne deVere of Brittany. Our deepest sympathy goes out to her.

Do you find your persona wandering the entire historical gambit from 1 AD through 1600 AD? Do you find yourself waking up in a peplos, spending the day in an apron dress, and retiring for the evening in a ruff and hoop skirts? Is this scenario complicated further by the fact that your persona is male? If any of this sounds familiar, you owe it to yourself to come spend the weekend indulging your inner time-traveler at Black Oak Lodge 2010: Crossroads in Time on March 19, 20 and 21, 2010.
The event is once again set in the cool green forests of coastal Caid. Accommodations include a cozy bunk in an enclosed wooden cabin for two nights.
Activities for the Weekend Include:
Round table discussions about personae development: Please bring your favorite personae with all the accoutrements that make you who you are (as opposed to when you are someone else).
Three different raffles featuring the best prizes EVER, designed with just YOU in mind, which you are automatically entered into by a) showing up and b) being a current member of the SCA (attendance at the Feast on Saturday Night is required to win).
A Children's Scavenger Hunt where YOU might be one of the items to be found.
Rapier and Armored Lists full of chivalric combat, heroic deeds, and potentially convoluted rules designed to stimulate your imagination. (In keeping with the event theme, additional points may be awarded for dispatching your opponents in chronological order).
Numerous arts and sciences classes, Scriptorium, and the Annual Lady Kaarna Memorial Purple Dessert Contest.
The Bard of Darach Bardic competition, hosted by the current Bard of Darach, Mistress Eilidh Swann.
Meals included with the weekend include a delicious soup on Friday evening, Breakfast on Saturday and Sunday mornings, lunch on Saturday, and for Saturday evening: The Most Delicious Feast in the History of Food!!

Travelers from the west have revealed Caid has a golden shore. We will March to the Sea, if we can figure out how to get there! Help us to navigate through Caid, the seas, and the known world on our ship, the Striking Falcon. For the heavy weapons and rapier fighters out there, we will have fresh new scenarios such as circle bouts and fighting on a gang plank. We plan to keep a fast pace, with little standing around, to get as much fighting in as possible so we are ready to face the high seas. Heavy weapons fighters, please be sure to bring your full gauntlets if you have them.
For those who are interested in the Arts and Sciences, there will be a competition for the best period pieces of navigational equipment. In addition, we'll have a cooking competition, in which you can either bring your food, or prepare it on site. The theme will consist of food that would have been eaten on ship or is good for traveling on our way to the sea. If there is interest, dog coursing space is available. Please e-mail the Event Steward if you wish to participate in coursing.
Site opens at 8:00 am with lists opening soon thereafter. Court shall commence at their Excellencies' convenience (which just so happens to fall about 10:00 am). The fighting will begin shortly after opening court. Site closes at 6:00 pm.

Have you not been able to do all the SCA camping you would like? Are those tents and pavilions sitting forlornly in the garages and trailers, looking for a weekend to get used? Well, have hope, the time for the King's Hunt will soon be upon us!
A plague of wild beasts has befallen our fair Shire! They are damaging our crops and threatening our livestock. The time has come to round up some of Caid's finest warriors and do battle upon the big-eyed deer and soft, fluffy bunnies who have ruthlessly invaded our wild places!
Wherefore do we plea for the aid of all the brave and skilled hunters of our Kingdom. Once again, the Shire of Carreg Wen will be hosting the King's Hunt. Come join us in the morning tracking down wild "animals" and in the afternoon we will have a tournament. The hunting party is made up of a "hunter" carrying a spear and two "dogs" which carry a single-handed weapon. The "Animals" may fight with any weapons. The prize goes to the hunting team that slays the most animals. There will also be a prize for the most unique animal. Saturday morning the fencers will be hunting dog skulls and each other in Blood of Heroes.
In the afternoon, there will be both heavy and rapier lists. The rapier list will be an interactive Hunt-themed tourney. Archery shoots and equestrian activities will also be held on Saturday.
This year's Event also means the return of the Master Baker of the Hunt competition! The title of Master Baker of the Hunt will be awarded to he or she who brings the best bread to site. Anyone may participate in this Populace's Choice competition. The entries will be judged by silent vote during the feast--please bake at least one large loaf of bread so as many people as possible may taste and vote. Printed ingredient lists are required with each entry and period documentation is encouraged, but not required.
Tickets will be available on site for $8 for the Saturday night Feast. A feast menu will be posted on-line soon. A breakfast will be provided Sunday morning so that all who come may travel home well fed.
Location: Live Oak Campground is nestled between the verdant hills of the Santa Ynez Mountains and the river of the same name. There is plenty of shaded camping space available and heated showers.
Site will open Friday, April 2, 2010 at noon and close Sunday April 4, 2010 at noon.
The Hunt will begin on Saturday morning.
Oyez , Oyez, Oyez!
The Shire of al-Sahid cordially invites all to join in celebrating its 19th anniversary and the return of spring to the high desert. Tournaments to determine the champions of al-Sahid in armored combat, rapier, youth combat, archery, and thrown weapons will be held on the green grass of Schmidt Park, Victorville California. The celebration will include entertaining activities such as a children's scorpion egg hunt, bunny melee (BYOB), and with enough interest, jousting (upon steeds of the bouncing sort). An Arts & Science pavilion will be provided to display your latest project(s), for artisans to work and share together, and for gaming. Bring your favorite lawn game to make use of the park's beautiful green turf.
Merchants are warmly welcome however contact information and resale permit number must be submitted to the Event Autocrat by March 14.
