07/18: Lyondemere Anniversary and Investiture

The Barony of Lyondemere invites all good gentles and nobles to celebrate with us the anniversary of our faire barony. We will be fêting our Baron Thomas Bordeaux and Baroness Angelina Nicollette de Beaumont, and celebrating the investiture of Lord Jon Thomme de Claydon and Lady Eva filia Edeneweyn as our new Baron and Baroness. This is a lovely tree-studded park bordering Atlantic Blvd between Artesia and Harding in Long Beach, north of the Bixby Knolls neighborhood. Please contact the event steward with your space requirements if you would like to reserve space directly on the list field. The site has an excellent canopy of trees on all sides of the list field so feel free to travel light in the hot July weather - a rug and comfortable chairs should be all you will need. The site opens at 8am for set up, and activities will begin at 9am. We will be having a Patronage of the Arts Basket Raffle as a way of both supporting the Barony and encouraging the Arts. One of the special items that will be in the raffle is Lord Jon Thomme's excellent reproduction of the Huldre bog woman's early Iron Age horn comb, which received a special recognition by Her Majesty at Pentathlon. Donations of all kinds are welcome and we would especially like to encourage donations of hand-made items, tools and materials, and the gift of your time and knowledge in certificates for instruction or the promise of custom-made items. There will be both rapier and heavy weapons fighting, as well as a separate "Inferno" list hosted by Sir Dante and Sir Gareth. For non-combatants we will have a challenging quest based on The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer as well as a selection of children's activities. We will cap off the day with a sumptuous Feast starting at 6:30 PM with a special guest from the West feast steward Lady Arganteilin filia Elffin. The feast will consist of three removes plus desert, and each remove will have vegetarian or vegan options. Ingredients for each dish will be available on every table, but if you have concerns about food allergies, please feel free to contact the autocrat for the ingredient list in advance.Highlights of the Feast MenuFirst Remove: slit sops leek, pan-seared vegetables, roasted chicken, boiled garlic and a variety of dried fruits.Second Remove: roasted beef with Saracen sauce, grilled vegetables, and salad with oil and vinegar dressing.Third Remove: mushrooms & leeks, oranges & walnuts, raw vegetables and a variety of dried fruits.Desert: sweet cream & berries, pears in confection, oranges & walnuts and assorted dried fruits. We will end the evening with dancing in the hall with live music provided by Mistress Finella Harper and the Unusual Consort. The site will close at 10pm to give our hardworking volunteer broom squad time to restore order to the hall.Volunteers are needed! You can help make this occasion even more successful by signing up to help prepare the feast, donating to the raffle, serving at feast, joining the broom squad or serving as constables. Please give a little of your time.

Once again the Canton of Gallavally is gathering in anticipation of the eventual arrival of Saint Corrigan, our Beloved but Confused patron saint, at cool and scenic Hurkey Creek Park. However, we have decided to make the wait more comfortable by having a camping event. We will have the usual Sheep Rugby, Sack The Town Raid, Bear Pit and other scenarios for individual and team competitions, as well as multiple games for the entire populace such as Bowl-ing, Hunkerhauser, the now traditional Gnome toss, Jumper Jousting and/or more equally silly and fun activities. Please be sure to check our page on the Kingdom Calendar for updates and announcements as that weekend approaches. The site will open at 2:00 pm on Friday, August 14 and will close at 11:00 am on Sunday, August 16. Pre-Registration through the Canton is required for camping; please contact THL Vivienne Duval at vivienne_duval@yahoo.com to reserve your spot. The Canton reserved the entire section of the park and your camping fees are exactly what they cost us: $47 for two nights per space, which will accommodate up to six persons in two tents (that's less than $8 per person for the entire weekend)! There can only be two vehicles per site - this is a park rule and is strictly enforced. Carpooling is strongly encouraged. Pets are allowed, however MUST be on a leash at all times; the park will charge an additional $1 per night fee per pet, payable directly to the park upon arrival. The Canton will be charging no extra site fee for campers. Site fees for non-camping Adults (12 and over): $3.00, with a $3.00 non member surcharge; Children under 12 are guests of the Canton. Please make checks payable to SCA Inc, Canton of Gallavally. NOTE: The park will charge an additional entry fee of $2.00 for adults and $1.00 for children and other pets, payable to the park upon entry. All pets (except children) MUST be on a leash at all times. There can only be two vehicles per campsite - this is a park rule and is strictly enforced. Carpooling is strongly encouraged. Non-campers will be directed to appropriate parking.
