Calendar: 09/18: Caidan Open Archery

Archers and onlookers, come out to El Dorado Park in the sea-shore Barony of Lyondemere for a day of shooting for the honor of holding the Kingdom Archery Championship. Spectators, there is ample shade under the trees, so all you need bring is what is necessary for your comfort: a seat, some food and drink, and perhaps a glass through which to look at the targets from a distance. Archers, ready your bows, straighten your arrows, and be prepared for a challenge! The Caidan Open Archery Tournament is a double-elimination Royal Round tournament. There will be no authorizations done at this event, and any entrants to the tournament must provide proof of authorization in target archery and proof of membership to the lists officer in order to vie for the Championship. A non-member can be winner of the day, but only a current member may hold the title, regalia, and office of Kingdom Champion. Youth archers who can compete at adult distances (20, 30, and 40 yards) are welcome with parent or guardian present, membership, and authorization. All youth activity rules apply. The day will be very busy, so all times given will be in 'real time'. Please plan accordingly.Schedule:8:00 am - site opens8:30 am - lists open, range open for warmup9:30 am - Opening Court10:00 am - lists close, competition begins4:00 pm - Closing Court (or directly after end of competition, if it runs long)5:00 pm - site closes - everyone must be out on time Due to the nature of the tournament, there will not be a formal break for lunch (which would let archers get 'cold'), so archers should bring snacks and drinks to keep themselves hydrated and energized through the day. Sunscreen and/or high-coverage garb is strongly recommended. It is also recommended that archers bring extra arrows if at all possible. To encourage competition throughout the ranks, a prize will be given to the top archer in each rank. Unranked archers who compete in the third round and beyond will be ranked according to the scores achieved during the event. Any unranked who do not complete three rounds will not be eligible for the ranking prizes. THL Paganus Grimlove, last year's Open Division Champion, will not be vying for the Open Championship this year. He will be running the list and acting as Marshal in Charge.

Because the Caidan Open site does not allow crossbows, we will be holding the Crossbow Championship the following day at another site which does allow them. All authorized Crossbow archers are invited to come out and compete, and spectators are invited to come watch from the shade as they vie for the Kingdom Crossbow Championship. The schedule will roughly follow the Open Archery event; however, court will be exceptionally brief. The Marshal in Charge will be Lady Rekon of Saaremaa.

Noble lords and ladies, prepare to take the field of honor to vie for the privilege of becoming the Equestrian Championship for Her Highness. Riders of all skills are encouraged to take part in this tournament, and to show their prowess and martial skills in various games. Riders! You are encouraged, nay enticed, to bring your finest trappings, barding, and banners to bring color and pageantry to Her Highness' field. There will be Mounted Archery, Javelin hunts, Double Quintain, and other mounted games (loaner equipment available). Please note that some of the tournament will take place outside the arena in the "woods." Please bear in mind the honor and responsibility of serving as Her Majesty's Equestrian Champion before competing for this title. If you would like to compete, but do not live in Caid or do not have the time to commit to serving on Her Majesty's court, please consider competing "hors concours" (for the joy of competition but not for the title of Champion) instead. Pipe stalls are available for overnight camping/stabling. Please contact the EQ autocrat to reserve one for your faithful steed! EQ Steward: Dame Arabella da Siena at queenschampioneq@sca-caid.org. The honour of holding the title of Queen's Champion Archer is to be decided on the same day. All shoots will be at the discretion of Her Highness to determine Her Champion. On Sunday there will be IKAC's and novelty shoots as time allows. Archery Steward: THL Ihon MacLucasat queenschampionarchery@sca-caid.org. Not to be outdone by mere horses and arrows Caid's most skillful will compete for the glory of becoming Queen's Champion of Thrown Weapons. In this contest there will be a normal Thrown Weapons elimination with knives-axes and spears and the top four will move to the semi-finals. Semi-finalists will be revealed right before the semi-finals are to begin. Thrown Weapons Steward: Lady Chalice de Kyrkeland at queenschampiontw@sca-caid.org
